What it does

Potassium azeloyl diglycinate is a derivative of azelaic acid in which the acid is bound to two glycine molecules and neutralised as a potassium salt. The change matters for formulation: azelaic acid is poorly soluble in water and gritty at useful levels, while this derivative dissolves cleanly into a light, clear serum at a skin-compatible pH.

Supplier and cosmetic literature describe it as sebum-normalising and tone-evening, with a moisturising contribution from the glycine portion. In use it is chosen for formulas aimed at the look of post-blemish marks, patchy tone and shine on oily zones, particularly where a gentler feel than azelaic acid is wanted.

It is non-acidic, does not increase sun sensitivity and sits comfortably alongside niacinamide, tranexamic acid and hydroxy acids in a multi-active formula. Most of the published evidence sits with the parent molecule, azelaic acid, so we label this ingredient literature-backed at the level of mechanism and supplier data rather than borrowing the parent molecule's claims.

Is this the same as azelaic acid?

It is a derivative, not the acid itself. It shares the azelaic backbone but is water-soluble and neutral, which is why it works in a clear serum without the grit or sting some people notice with azelaic acid creams.

Can I use it every day?

Yes. It is non-exfoliating and well tolerated. As with any new active, patch-test first.

Why is the evidence tier "literature-backed" rather than clinical?

The strongest published data is on azelaic acid. The derivative is supported by supplier studies and mechanism work. We say so plainly rather than borrow the parent molecule's claims.
